It’s a beautiful day…for some gyro-wakening

I don’t think I’ve ever posted any photos/videos of me exercising (except dance, but I consider it more of a hobby and an art form). I haven’t been the most confident about my own body and physical self for honestly most of my life. I only started seriously working out (i.e., lifting) in the gym my last semester of undergrad (gotta take advantage of that free student gym membership), and it’s definitely helped me gain confidence with my physical self. And I’ve been consistently at the gym for actually around a year right up to when lockdown started - and had actually been making some good progress with my bench and squats. I believe I had a 1-rep max of 105lb bench and 20lb squat.

Anyhow, since lockdown it’s been hard with my routine. With motivation, but also the “after workout” just feels different...less euphoric. While I’ve been doing some solo dancing, was never really able to find that newfound appreciation for my body for awhile. (And not that I don’t enjoy dancing - honestly it’s really been something great for my mental health - just more so when you feel your muscles so much weaker than you once were….also not that I was super swole or anything during the 1-year 😂, it’s super demoralizing), coupled with major quarantine blues as well.

Well, it’s been about two months (tbh just surprised myself how fast time has gone) since I started my first gyrokinesis workout (aka “gyro”, and no it’s not the food stand seen almost everywhere in NYC) with GYRO. with. PHOENIX. Understood initially to me as a supplement/exercise for ballroom dancing and range of motion/flexibility, it has quickly become more than exercise but a de-stressor and place to “open up” for me. And especially since sessions would be right in early evenings when I’m just about logging off from work as well.

While there’s still so sooo much for me to work on (i.e., my core is still weak af, balance is still wobbly, my instructor @Phoenix could probably tell you more seeing my struggles over the Zoom sessions), mentally I could feel different within myself, could feel better about myself. As evidenced below while stopping for a break after my walk to enjoy the beautiful dusk and sunset moment, the moment I sat down on the bench, my body seemingly started to want to do some arch and curls from gyro class. After several iterations, I sat back on the bench and I really truly felt at ease and happy. I gave it a nice exhale, loosened my jaw - I could practically hear my instructor’s commentary as if it were one of her sessions. And for several golden moments (actually pun intended - the sunset was also at the perfect, golden spot)….

*indescribable moment of bliss*

If you’re interested in trying out the experience, gyrokinesis / workout (and yes, it’s a workout….you really feel parts of your body activated like heck), direct message me and can talk more ☺️

Also btw, just noticed did a post with a similar title and content on my old blog site #theEmergentLeader, oh how much have happened since then…
